1. What software is included in system software?
System software consists of two primary types of programs. The first program is the operating system. The second is the utility programs.
2. What are the different kinds of operating systems?
Some of the different types of operating systems are Microsoft Disk Operating System (MS-DOS) a single task, single user operating systems. One of many earlier operating systems. Apple's Mac OS and Microsoft Windows Were operating systems that allowed a single user to multitask, Technically becoming multitask operating systems. Another kind of system is Real-time Operating System. Also referred as embedded systems, This type of operating system is a program with a specific purpose, and it must guarantee certain response times for particular computing task. There are many multitask operating system also known as Networking Systems. Such as UNIX operating systems. Then there is mainframe operating systems. Firmware operating systems is another type. Linux operating system is one of the most popular systems. Android Operating System is one the latest operating systems.
3. What are the most common operating systems?
Many of the popular operating systems are Linux operating systems. Linux is an open source of operating systems designed for use on personal computers and as a network operating system. I use firmware everyday (PlayStation 3). Firmware is a customized system software that is develop specifically for game consoles. Android operating systems is another common operating system. Plus one that i also use everyday. I have many droid products that I use at home. (not really an apple person) Tablets and cellphones.
4. How does the operating systems provide a means for user to interact with the computer?
The operating systems provides a user interface that enables you to interact with the computer. Graphical user interface is the most common interface or GUI (gooey) display graphics and use the point-and-click technology of the mouse and cursor, making them user friendly. There are other free interfaces that you can download to your computer. there is the GNOME that allows you to select which interface you'd like to use. (Windows or mac) Another is KDE. KDE is a software that consists of a large number of individual applications and a desktop workspace as a shell to run these applications.
